Another day, another example of how broken Democrat-run cities have become. Detroit's newly sworn-in police commissioner Darious Morris is refusing to step down despite being exposed as a convicted felon who once threatened to shoot a police officer.
Morris, 38, was sworn in on December 17 as one of nearly a dozen members of the Board of Police Commissioners—the very body entrusted with overseeing the Detroit Police Department. He won his District 3 seat on a write-in campaign after no other candidate even bothered to run. That should have been the first red flag.
But here's where it gets really rich: this is the guy who's supposed to be holding cops accountable, yet he has a criminal record of antagonizing and threatening law enforcement officers. The irony would be laughable if it weren't so dangerous for the people of Detroit.
Classic Democrat Hypocrisy
When the story first broke, Morris initially promised to resign—probably hoping the scandal would blow over quietly. But now? He's changed his tune completely and refuses to step down. Because in Democrat-controlled Detroit, apparently having a criminal record that includes threatening police officers is considered a qualification, not a disqualification.
This is exactly what happens when cities are run into the ground by decades of failed liberal policies. Standards disappear. Accountability vanishes. And the very people who should be protecting law and order end up being the ones with criminal records.
"If you would h[ave]..." Morris reportedly said in his past confrontations with police, showing the kind of respect for law enforcement we've come to expect from the radical left.
Detroit residents deserve better than this circus act. They deserve police commissioners who respect law enforcement, not threaten to shoot them. But this is what you get when Democrats run cities—criminals overseeing the cops instead of being held accountable by them.
Will Detroit's mayor and city council finally do something about this embarrassment, or will they continue to let their anti-police agenda destroy what's left of their city?
