Just ten days into the Trump Administration's historic second term, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is already proving why conservatives were right to be skeptical of his leadership. The establishment Republican is now DENYING he made any commitments to weaken the filibuster to pass the SAVE Act - a critical election integrity bill that would require proof of citizenship to vote.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), a fierce America First warrior, apparently believed she had secured Thune's commitment to discuss filibuster reform with the GOP conference to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act. But when pressed by the Washington Examiner on Tuesday, Thune quickly backpedaled.
"We haven't made any commitments," Thune said, rebuffing Luna's suggestions that he had promised action on the filibuster.
This is exactly the kind of weak-kneed, establishment thinking that has allowed Democrats to steamroll conservative priorities for decades. While President Trump is moving at lightning speed to secure our border and restore American strength, Thune is already making excuses about why Republicans can't deliver on basic election security.
The SAVE Act: Common Sense Under Attack
The SAVE Act isn't some radical proposal - it's basic common sense that only American citizens should vote in American elections. But Democrats are so committed to protecting their illegal voter base that they'll filibuster even the most basic election integrity measures.
Meanwhile, these same Democrats had no problem nuking the filibuster when it suited their agenda during the Obama and Biden years. They eliminated it for judicial nominees and constantly threatened to kill it entirely for their radical spending bills.
Patriots across America are watching to see if Thune will stand with President Trump's mandate for secure elections, or if he'll cave to the swamp creatures who want to maintain the broken status quo. The American people voted for ACTION, not excuses.
Will Thune find his backbone and fight for election integrity, or will he prove that the Senate GOP establishment learned nothing from Trump's overwhelming victory?
