In a stunning example of government incompetence that could have put American lives at risk, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested an illegal immigrant fraudster who was just seven days away from graduating from the New Orleans Police Department academy.

Larry Temah, 46, an illegal alien from Cameroon, had successfully infiltrated the NOPD recruitment process and was hired in June 2024. For months, this fraud was training alongside legitimate recruits, preparing to carry a weapon and enforce American laws while having no legal right to even be in the country.

NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed the shocking breach following Temah's arrest by federal immigration authorities. The fact that an illegal immigrant could make it through background checks and months of training exposes serious gaps in our law enforcement vetting processes.

How Did This Happen?

This disaster raises critical questions about the competency of local law enforcement agencies. How does someone with no legal status in America slip through what should be rigorous background investigations? What other corners are being cut in the name of filling recruitment quotas?

The timing couldn't be more relevant. President Trump's mass deportation operation is identifying exactly these kinds of fraudulent actors who have embedded themselves in American institutions. While the mainstream media focuses on sob stories, here's a concrete example of why strict immigration enforcement matters.

"This is exactly why we need comprehensive immigration reform and secure borders," one law enforcement expert told conservative media. "When illegal aliens can nearly become police officers, the system is fundamentally broken."

Thank God ICE acted when they did. Imagine if Temah had graduated and been handed a badge, gun, and authority over American citizens. This near-miss should serve as a wake-up call to every police department in America.

Under Trump's renewed leadership, expect more of these embedded fraudsters to be rooted out. The question is: how many more Larry Temahs are already carrying badges in sanctuary cities across America?

This is exactly why we need mandatory E-Verify for ALL government positions. How did this person even get past the initial background check? Our taxpayer dollars shouldn't be funding training for people who aren't even here legally.

100% agree! The vetting process is clearly broken if someone can get this far into police training.

As a New Orleans resident, this is absolutely infuriating. We're already dealing with crime issues and now we find out they were about to put someone on the force who was here illegally? What's next?

Thank goodness this was caught before graduation. Can you imagine the liability issues and the damage to public trust? Police officers need to uphold the law, not break it from day one.

Exactly! How can you enforce immigration law when you're violating it yourself?
