But when push came to shove, Senate Democrats killed the deal rather than allow any strengthening of our immigration system under President Trump's leadership.
Democrats Choose Politics Over Public Safety
This is the same tired playbook we've seen from the left for years: claim to support "police reform" and "accountability," but the moment Republicans offer actual solutions that would improve ICE operations while maintaining strong enforcement, Democrats run for the hills.
The truth is crystal clear – Democrats would rather see DHS shut down than give President Trump any victories on border security. They're willing to jeopardize the very department responsible for protecting our homeland just to score cheap political points.
"Senate Democrats are more interested in protecting illegal immigrants than protecting the American people," one Republican aide told reporters. "They had a chance to support reasonable reforms and chose chaos instead."
