Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), one of the GOP's most unreliable votes and a constant thorn in President Trump's side, officially announced her 2026 reelection campaign Tuesday in a cutesy social media video that had many conservatives rolling their eyes.
The 73-year-old RINO posted a clip of herself unboxing running shoes, declaring "This is perfect for 2026, because I'm running." What she didn't mention is that she'll likely be running FROM her own voting record - and from angry Maine Republicans who are fed up with her backstabbing antics.
Collins has made a career out of playing both sides, consistently undermining conservative priorities while hiding behind her "moderate" label. Remember when she voted against repealing Obamacare? Or when she joined Democrats in opposing President Trump's border security initiatives? Patriots do.
A Primary Challenge Brewing?
While GOP establishment types are reportedly "reassured" by Collins' decision to run again, grassroots conservatives are already talking about mounting a serious primary challenge. The MAGA movement has had enough of Republicans who campaign conservative but vote like Democrats when it matters most.
"Susan Collins represents everything wrong with the old Republican Party," said one Maine Republican activist who requested anonymity. "She talks tough during election years then stabs us in the back once she's safely in Washington."
"Maine deserves a Senator who will fight alongside President Trump, not someone who undermines him at every turn."
With President Trump's America First agenda in full swing during his second term, Collins' wishy-washy approach looks increasingly out of step with where the Republican Party is headed. Her seat may be "competitive" in a general election, but she might not even make it that far if Maine's conservative base has anything to say about it.
The question isn't whether Collins can win - it's whether she deserves to. After decades of disappointing conservatives, maybe it's time for Maine Republicans to lace up their own running shoes and chase her out of office.
