In what can only be described as peak leftist delusion, Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen embarrassed himself Tuesday by comparing conservative policy proposals to Islamic sharia law during a House Judiciary Committee hearing focused on keeping America free from foreign religious legal systems.
The Republican-led hearing, aptly titled "Sharia-Free America," was examining legitimate concerns about efforts to impose sharia—the Islamic moral and legal code derived from the Quran—within American communities. But instead of addressing this serious threat to our constitutional republic, Cohen decided to attack his own countrymen.
Cohen's ridiculous comparison drew audible laughter from the hearing room, and for good reason. The congressman's attempt to equate traditional American values with a foreign religious legal system that often conflicts with basic constitutional rights shows just how desperate Democrats have become.
The Left's War on Traditional Values
This isn't surprising coming from the same party that spent years demonizing concerned parents at school board meetings and labeling them as "domestic terrorists." Now they're literally comparing Christian conservatives to adherents of a legal system that, in many countries, denies basic rights to women and religious minorities.
While Republicans work to protect American sovereignty and constitutional principles, Democrats like Cohen are more interested in scoring cheap political points than addressing real threats to our way of life. The contrast couldn't be clearer—one party wants to preserve American values, while the other sees traditional Americans as the real enemy.
"The fact that a sitting congressman can't tell the difference between defending American constitutional principles and implementing foreign religious law tells you everything you need to know about today's Democratic Party," one GOP aide told reporters after the hearing.
