Another day, another desperate Democrat lying about election integrity measures. Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-MI) is now spreading outrageous falsehoods about the SAVE America Act, absurdly claiming that requiring proof of citizenship would somehow prevent married women from exercising their right to vote.
The SAVE Act, which passed the House last year with overwhelming Republican support, simply requires Americans to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections. You know, the same thing you need to get a driver's license, open a bank account, or board an airplane.
But according to Scholten's twisted logic, asking for a birth certificate creates an insurmountable obstacle for married women because their names might have changed. Really? That's the best she's got?
Republicans Fire Back at False Claims
Republicans aren't letting this ridiculous claim slide. The legislation includes multiple forms of acceptable documentation, and name changes have been handled routinely in every other aspect of American life for decades. Marriage certificates, court documents, and other records easily establish identity continuity.
"This is pure fearmongering from Democrats who want to keep our elections vulnerable to fraud," said one GOP source familiar with the legislation. "They're grasping at straws because they know the American people overwhelmingly support making sure only citizens vote in our elections."
What's really happening here? Democrats are panicking because they know their coalition depends on loose election security. They've fought tooth and nail against every common-sense measure to verify voter eligibility, from ID requirements to signature matching to citizenship verification.
The Real Agenda Exposed
Scholten's dishonest attack reveals the left's desperation as President Trump's administration continues pushing for the strongest election integrity measures in American history. They can't win on the merits, so they resort to scare tactics and outright lies.
Patriots see right through this nonsense. If Democrats were confident about winning elections fairly, why would they oppose basic safeguards that other democracies around the world consider standard practice?
The question every American should be asking: What exactly are Democrats so afraid we might find if we actually verify who's voting in our elections?
