Belgium's foreign minister threw a diplomatic tantrum Tuesday, summoning U.S. Ambassador Bill White after the Trump-appointed official dared to speak the truth about rising antisemitism in the European nation.
Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot clutched his pearls and demanded a meeting with Ambassador White, whining about "offensive" accusations after White correctly identified Belgium as becoming a breeding ground for antisemitism. The Belgian official called it a "personal attack" - apparently the truth hurts.
This is exactly why President Trump appointed tough, no-nonsense ambassadors who aren't afraid to call out our so-called allies when they fail to protect Jewish communities. While previous administrations would have whispered diplomatic niceties behind closed doors, Trump's team is putting America First and demanding accountability from nations that claim to share our values.
Europe's Antisemitism Problem Can't Be Ignored
Ambassador White's comments come as antisemitic incidents have surged across Europe, particularly since the October 7 Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel. Belgium, like many European nations, has struggled with growing antisemitism in major cities, often fueled by unchecked immigration from countries with deeply rooted anti-Jewish sentiment.
But instead of addressing the real problem, Belgian officials are more concerned with their hurt feelings than protecting Jewish citizens. This is the same weak European mentality that got them into this mess in the first place.
"We will not tolerate personal attacks disguised as diplomatic criticism," Prevot reportedly told Belgian media, missing the point entirely.
The Trump administration has made clear that supporting Israel and combating antisemitism worldwide are non-negotiable priorities. Unlike the previous administration's weak-kneed approach to international relations, Trump's team is willing to ruffle feathers when American values and our allies' safety are at stake.
This diplomatic dustup perfectly illustrates why Trump won a second term - Americans are tired of weak leadership that coddles foreign officials while real problems fester. When our ambassadors speak truth to power, that's not a "personal attack" - that's called leadership.
Will Belgium address its antisemitism crisis, or continue playing the victim when called out by America's strongest pro-Israel administration in history?
