A Tennessee Republican is taking aim at American athletes who abandon Team USA for foreign paychecks, introducing legislation that would finally make these sellouts pay for their betrayal.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has introduced the "Officially Limiting Yearly Money Procured by Individuals Concerning Sportsmanship Act" — better known as the OLYMPICS Act — that would slap a hefty tax on income earned by American athletes who compete for foreign governments, particularly nations classified as "foreign entities of concern."
The bill directly targets athletes like freestyle skier Eileen Gu, who infamously ditched the United States to compete for Communist China in the 2022 Beijing Olympics while raking in millions from Chinese sponsors. While American athletes scraped by on modest stipends, Gu was cashing checks from the very regime that unleashed COVID-19 on the world.
Making Traitors Pay Their Fair Share
"American athletes who choose to represent foreign adversaries should face consequences for that decision," a source familiar with the legislation told patriots following the story. "Why should someone profit from competing against their own country without any accountability?"
The OLYMPICS Act would apply specifically to athletes representing nations deemed hostile to American interests — think China, Russia, and Iran. These are the same countries that have been stealing our technology, threatening our allies, and undermining American values on the world stage.
"If you want to take Chinese money and wear their uniform, then you should pay American taxes on every penny," one GOP aide explained.
This isn't about punishing success — it's about ensuring American athletes don't get rewarded for turning their backs on the country that trained them, educated them, and gave them the opportunities that made their success possible in the first place.
With President Trump's America First agenda in full swing, Congress is finally addressing the sellouts who put foreign cash above American pride. The question isn't whether this makes sense — it's why it took so long to hold these mercenary athletes accountable.
Will other Republicans step up to support Ogles' common-sense legislation, or will they let American athletes continue cashing foreign checks without consequence?
