Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is making good on his promise to revolutionize military education, starting with a decisive break from woke academia that has infected our officer corps for decades.
Social media erupted Monday after reports surfaced that Hegseth "announced that the department will end all military training and education programs, such as ROTC and special fellowships, at Harvard beginning in the 2026-27 academic year," according to a viral tweet from @WinnJillforPres.
The move comes as military education experts sound the alarm about a fundamental problem plaguing America's armed forces: officers who can tell you everything about weapons specifications but nothing about strategic thinking.
"Too many officers can recite weapons specs but can't explain the 'why' of war," tweeted @tgradous, sharing a memo from The Blaze that calls for a complete strategic makeover of military education.
The memo points to a glaring issue exposed during recent Iran operations: watching active and former officers on TV and social media revealed they're "locked in the tactical weeds." These officers can recite "the circular error probable of a Tomahawk missile, the engagement envelope of a JDAM, and the close-quarters choreography of a SEAL platoon," but they're failing to grasp the bigger strategic picture.
Breaking the Woke Academic Stranglehold
Hegseth's decision to cut ties with Harvard sends a clear message: the Trump administration won't tolerate institutions that have poisoned military minds with anti-American ideology while failing to produce strategic thinkers capable of 21st-century warfare.
This overhaul couldn't come at a better time. While Hegseth tackles military education reform, lawmakers are simultaneously pushing veterans disability reform that would give 54,000 wounded warriors both their military retirement pay and VA disability compensation without one offsetting the other.
Patriots across America are rallying behind Hegseth's bold reforms. It's time our military leaders think beyond gear specs and tactical maneuvers β they need to understand the grand strategy that keeps America safe and free.
Will other woke universities follow Harvard out the door? The answer may determine whether America's officer corps is ready for the challenges ahead.
