Justice was swift in Louisiana this week as a jury took less than an hour to convict former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts of felony child sex crimes after she raped a 16-year-old boy at a drunken pool party at her home while still serving in office.
Roberts, 43, was found guilty Tuesday of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile — both felonies that could land her behind bars for years. The Democrat politician, who made history as DeRidder's first female mayor, has now made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
According to testimony, multiple teenagers witnessed Roberts having sex with the intoxicated minor during the boozy party at her residence. The victim was reportedly her son's best friend, making the betrayal even more sickening.
Social media erupted with disgust over the verdict. Newser reported that "Louisiana's first female mayor of DeRidder has now become its most notorious former officeholder," while another user bluntly called it what it was: "Louisiana mayor convicted of raping 16-year-old boy."
