A decorated Marine instructor was brutally murdered Thursday at Old Dominion University by an ISIS-supporting terrorist who never should have been walking free on American soil.
Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shah, a military hero who dedicated his life to serving our nation, was fatally shot by Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former National Guard soldier who was previously convicted of supporting the Islamic State terror group. The fact that this terrorist was able to carry out this attack raises serious questions about our broken immigration and justice systems.
Jalloh, described as a "naturalized citizen," had already been convicted of providing support to ISIS – yet somehow remained free to murder an American hero. How does a convicted ISIS supporter get to roam freely in our country? This is exactly the kind of national security failure that President Trump's America First agenda is designed to prevent.
Another Preventable Tragedy
This attack represents everything wrong with the previous administration's weak approach to national security. While Democrats spent years obsessing over phantom "domestic terrorists" among patriotic Americans, real Islamic terrorists like Jalloh were apparently given free rein to plan attacks on our military personnel.
Lieutenant Colonel Shah died serving his country, even in retirement as an instructor. Meanwhile, his killer – a man who pledged allegiance to America's enemies – was allowed to remain on U.S. soil despite his terror convictions.
The Trump administration must ensure this never happens again. Every naturalized citizen with terrorism ties should be immediately reviewed for deportation. We cannot allow America to become a safe haven for those who hate us and want to kill our heroes.
How many more decorated veterans must die before we take the Islamic terror threat seriously? How many more Mohamed Bailor Jallohs are walking among us right now, planning their next attack on innocent Americans?
