The latest PCE inflation data – the Federal Reserve's preferred measure – shows prices cooling to levels we haven't seen since before the Biden administration wrecked the economy. While the domestic economy roars back to life, the Trump administration isn't sitting idle on the international front. Ambassador Jamieson Greer, the U.S. Trade Representative, announced that Section 301 investigations are moving at "warp speed" against countries exploiting unfair trade practices.
We're talking about nations using child labor to mine lithium for batteries, forced labor producing goods that flood American markets, and subsidies designed to undercut American workers. The swamp usually takes years to address these issues. The Trump administration? Months. Weeks.
"If we find that countries have been involved in unfair trading practices like subsidies, excess capacity, allowing goods made with forced labor into their countries, we can quantify that harm to U.S. commerce," Greer explained. "If they can't resolve it or don't resolve it sufficiently, you can impose a tariff or a fee."
