House Majority Whip Tom Emmer is leading the charge to strip citizenship from naturalized Americans who commit acts of terror against the country that welcomed them, following a disturbing string of attacks by foreign-born terrorists who exploited America's immigration system.
The Minnesota Republican is pushing hard for passage of the SCAM Act, legislation that would give the United States the legal framework to revoke citizenship from naturalized Americans who betray their oath and turn against their adopted homeland.
"We have America-hating terrorists walking among us who took an oath to this country, only to spit in our faces and plot our destruction," Emmer declared. "These people should lose their citizenship immediately. No questions asked."
"We're not talking about American citizens here – we're talking about people who came here, swore allegiance to America, then decided to wage war against us. That's not immigration, that's infiltration."
The SCAM Act comes as immigration experts expose massive flaws in our naturalization process that allow hostile foreign actors to gain American citizenship, then use that protected status to launch attacks on innocent Americans. Recent terrorist incidents involving naturalized citizens have exposed how our enemies are gaming the system.
Time to Close the Loopholes
For too long, America's generous immigration laws have been exploited by people who hate everything this country stands for. They come here, take advantage of our opportunities, gain citizenship – then turn around and bite the hand that fed them.
The SCAM Act would finally give law enforcement and immigration officials the tools they need to protect Americans from these wolves in sheep's clothing. If you commit acts of terror against America after becoming a citizen, you clearly lied during your naturalization process about supporting and defending the Constitution.
Patriots across America are asking: Why should we allow people who hate America to keep their American citizenship? It's time to send these terrorists packing – permanently.
