California Governor Gavin Newsom couldn't bring himself to say the word "Zionist" when asked directly if he considers himself one, instead offering a pathetic word salad that perfectly captures how the radical left has abandoned America's greatest ally in the Middle East.
In a revealing interview with Politico published this week, Newsom was given a softball opportunity to affirm his support for Israel's right to exist. Instead, the man many consider a future Democrat presidential candidate tap-danced around the question like a politician terrified of his own progressive base.
When asked point-blank if he's a Zionist, Newsom repeated the question – a classic stalling tactic – before refusing to answer directly. He eventually mumbled that he "reveres" Israel while simultaneously attacking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
"Do I consider myself a Zionist?" Newsom repeated, clearly uncomfortable. Rather than give a simple yes or no, he launched into typical political doublespeak.
This is what happens when Democrats become prisoners of their own radical wing. The same party that once stood firmly with Israel now cowers before the antisemitic mob that has taken over college campuses and city streets across America.
The Democrat Party's Israel Problem
Newsom's cowardice isn't surprising – it's strategic. The California governor knows that openly supporting Israel's right to exist and defend itself would trigger the Hamas sympathizers and Jew-haters who now control significant portions of the Democrat base.
Meanwhile, President Trump continues demonstrating real leadership on the world stage, standing firmly with our Israeli allies while these Democrat politicians play word games. The contrast couldn't be clearer between America First strength and Democrat weakness.
Patriots need to remember this moment. When push comes to shove, will Democrats stand with America's allies or will they cave to the radical antisemites in their own party? Newsom just gave us our answer.
How can Americans trust a party that won't even defend our closest democratic ally in the Middle East?
