Billionaire former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has opened his checkbook in a big way, dumping $80 million into Democrat campaigns in a final push to help the party snag control of the House in next month's midterm elections, according to a New York Times report.

The Times reported that at least $50 million of Bloomberg's money is directed specifically at House Democrats, with Bloomberg political adviser Howard Wolfson telling the paper the goal is to ensure a Democratic majority that is more than the bare minimum 218 seats needed to control the chamber.

"The difference between 221 and 230, in terms of the House majority, really matters," Wolfson told the Times.

Bloomberg's contributions were made in September and October, per the Times. Among the donations: $24 million to Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun-control group Bloomberg co-founded that is spending on Democratic candidates in the lower chamber, and $16 million to the House Majority Pac, which is tied to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

New York Times reporter Teddy Schleifer flagged the move on X, posting: "Mike Bloomberg is back, baby. Bloomberg is putting $80 million into an effort to help Democrats, becoming one of the largest disclosed donors in the midterms. At least $50 million of that is to help Democrats in the House."

The cash infusion comes as Democrats have acknowledged trailing Republicans in fundraising. Bloomberg, 84, served three terms as New York City mayor from 2002 to 2013 as an independent before registering as a Democrat. He spent $80 million to help the party in the 2018 midterms during Trump's first term and made a well-funded but unsuccessful bid for the party's presidential nomination in 2020.

The Bloomberg spending spree is being met dollar-for-dollar on the Republican side. The Guardian reported that President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he intends to spend a total of $400 million to aid Republican candidates, with $300 million already disbursed. Trump ally Elon Musk has spent $366 million on conservative groups and campaigns so far, according to the Guardian.

Republicans currently hold the House by a historically small margin, and Democrats believe they are favored to take back the chamber this year. Democrats also believe they have a shot at netting the four seats necessary to retake the Senate, though analysts believe it could go either way. Control of either chamber would allow Democrats to block Trump's legislative agenda and more effectively investigate his administration.

The fight for Congress comes as the Trump-Vance administration pushes its America First agenda — mass deportation of illegal immigrants, tariffs, deregulation through Elon Musk's DOGE effort, energy dominance, and reversing Biden-era executive orders. A Democrat House majority would put a hard stop to much of that legislative push.

The Times reported Bloomberg's money will help cut into Republicans' financial advantage. The New York Times, The Guardian and Breitbart all reported the donations. It is not yet known whether Bloomberg plans any further contributions before Election Day.

Our Take

Eighty million dollars. That's what Michael Bloomberg thinks it costs to buy back the House of Representatives — and he's not even hiding it. The same billionaire who spent $80 million in 2018, then lit a fortune on fire in a failed 2020 presidential run, is back to bankroll the radical Left's push to kneecap President Trump's agenda before it can be fully enacted.

Notice the framing from Bloomberg's own adviser: it's not about policy, it's about the math. "The difference between 221 and 230 really matters" — in other words, a padded majority that can rubber-stamp investigations, block votes, and grind the Trump-Vance agenda to a halt. That's the return Bloomberg expects on his $80 million.

But here's the good news, patriots: Trump has already put $400 million on the table for Republicans, with $300 million already out the door, and Elon Musk has committed $366 million to conservative causes. The America First movement isn't showing up to this fight with a tin cup. Bloomberg's checkbook is big — but he's not the only one writing them, and he's not working with the enthusiasm of the MAGA base.

What Bloomberg is funding is a party that wants to open the borders, gut the Second Amendment, and turn the federal bureaucracy loose on its political enemies. Every dollar he spends is a dollar spent trying to undo the 2024 mandate the American people delivered.

So the question for every patriot between now and November: will you let a billionaire from Manhattan buy your congressman? Or will you show up at the ballot box and make sure $80 million can't outvote We the People?

My wife and I knocked doors for our local candidates last cycle because we couldn't afford to donate much. Seeing this kind of money flood in makes you wonder if any of that door-knocking even matters anymore.

Don't quit. Their money is loud but our people are persistent.

It matters at the local level, friend. That's where we can still beat their money with boots on the ground.

I keep hearing these billionaire donors are 'saving democracy' by spending record sums. How is a single New York billionaire outspending millions of ordinary voters democracy? Genuine question, because the math never seems to bother anyone on their side.

Eighty million dollars to buy a single branch of government tells you everything about how the left operates. They can't win on ideas so they just write checks.

Exactly. And the media will call it 'grassroots organizing' while ignoring where the money actually comes from.
