The White House Rapid Response 47 account credited President Trump's policies for a record drop in murder rates, citing remarks from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mullin.
According to the post, Secretary Mullin said: "You're seeing crime rates drop because @POTUS has tasked @DHS with taking these worst-of-the-worst criminals off our streets. Murder rates have dropped to a 126-year low. Violent crime has dropped to a 30-40-year low."
Secure Border Enables Focus on Inner Cities
In a video included with the post, Secretary Mullin expanded on the administration's approach, linking border security to crime reduction.
"First of all, President Trump has made it very clear he can secure the border. It was Biden that said he needed Congress to act. We didn't need Congress to act. We needed a new president. And because of President Trump's leadership, we do have a secure border," Mullin said.
Mullin argued that securing the border has allowed the administration to shift focus: "Now we can focus on our inner cities and you're seeing crime rate drop because of the enforcement that President Trump has tasked Department of Homeland Security, which is our job. We take care of the homeland. To take these worse, the worse, and these criminals off our streets."
Historic Lows in Murder and Violent Crime
Mullin highlighted the dramatic statistics: "And you see murder rates drop by 126 year low. You see violent crimes drop into 30 to 40, 50 year lows."
He tied the decline to President Trump's enforcement priorities, noting that a small fraction of the population is responsible for a large share of crime.
"And the President made this, President Trump made this very clear. 2% of the population is accredited for creating 90% of the crime," Mullin said.
Targeting Criminals Released Under Previous Administration
Mullin also referenced arrests made under President Trump that he says involve individuals who entered the country under the previous administration.
"What you think about the number, 20 million illegals let loose inside this country. Under President Trump's leadership, we've arrested 2168 terrorists that was turned loose in this country because of Biden administration. And over 16,000 serious affiliated drug bangers that are running around. And the numbers are crazy," Mullin said.
