President Trump took the stage in Ohio on Wednesday night and delivered a speech packed with concrete policy announcements, ranging from a new Navy facility in Cleveland to the rollback of a methane rule he said would save Americans billions and unlock Ohio energy.
Navy component repair center coming to Cleveland
The president credited Ohio Senator John Husted for securing the Navy's Future Component Repair Center, which will service all new and existing submarines. "The Department of War has selected the new home of the Navy's Future Component Repair Center, which is a big deal to work on all new and existing submarines right here in Ohio," Trump said. "That was John."
He also teased a future prize for the state if Husted wins re-election: "I am going to consider putting the Space Academy right here," Trump said.
Methane rule terminated, $45 billion in savings
Trump announced the termination of what he called "Sleepy Joe Biden's burdensome and unnecessary methane rule targeting small oil and gas producers." The move, he said, "will save consumers and energy producers, $45 billion in cost," and "unlock fast quantities of Ohio energy and unleash $210 million barrels at a minimum."
He also promised to sign the REEK Payer Protection Act if Husted is re-elected, which would "lower utility costs for the consumer by ensuring that big tech companies pay the cost of their own electricity production."
Legislative agenda outlined
Trump laid out a list of priorities he said would be passed, including "the no invasion of a country act" to prevent future presidents from opening borders, a ban on sanctuary cities, and the death penalty for large-scale drug dealers, human traffickers, and anyone who kills a police officer.
He also called for voter identification, proof of citizenship, and the Save America Act, and pledged to "enshrine in permanent law no men in women's sports and no transgender immunization of your children."
Shoutout to UFC Hall of Famer
In a lighter moment, Trump recognized UFC Hall of Famer Rich Franklin in the crowd. "We have one of the world's greatest fighters. UFC fighters, Hall of Famer, Rich Franklin," Trump said. "That guy, I've seen you fight. We're not going to fight you."
